Why every American should read this book

First, it is a page turner and and would make a blockbuster movie.
Second, Marc Headley wrote and published this book while still being harrassed and harrangued by Scientology's "intelligence arm".

One of many rapid-fire expose's, they all expose one startling fact: Our government agencies have been ignoring the crimes and abuses of this cult for decades. Every American should now ask your Senator and Congressman to see to it that these horrendous crimes finally come to an end, and that U.S. Citizens be protected. And don't forget to ask the current IRS Commissioner why the error of religious status given to this group hasn't not been corrected.

When you read what really goes on it will seem too incredulous. Just when you've finished one chapter, thinking it couldn't possibly get worse, you turn the page. Somehow Marc has kept and inserted his sense of humour amidst the horror. Kudos to your courage as well, Marc. Will our elected officials now stand up as well?

A Scientology insider tells all - Scientology is dumb

Stayed up into the night finishing Marc Headley's Blown for Good. I was blown away by how good this book was. I could not put it down - and I'm glad I didn't.

I finished Nancy Many's Billion Year Contract a couple of days ago. That was a good book, It is distinct among the recent Scientology survivor books in how it gives an inside view on how mental illness and Scientology don't mix. Maybe too much of an "inside" view. The book was grueling for sure but I would recommend it. But that book didn't capture me quite so much as Blown for Good.

The day after I finished Nancy Many's book, I got Blown for Good in the mail. There is so much about this book to like. There is a charm to it. I realized half way through the book that all the chapter titles were taken from Depeche Mode songs and like the music of Depeche Mode, the book takes you some place dark where strength and vulnerability walk hand in hand. It also occurred to me that is book begs to be made into a movie, not only because the picture Marc paints is so clear, but also because we already have a sound track.

Marc's sarcastic, smart ass comments are great comic relief and not just funny to laugh at, but almost necessary as he takes you into the world of Scientology's "Secret" Base, the domain of the sociopathic, sadistic "leader" Dave Miscavige. More than any other book to date (I think I've read them all) this book paints a portrait of Miscavige. It is not a pretty picture. Miscavige comes off sometimes as a cartoonish super villain, laughing maniacally at his hapless minions who he makes to suffer, but Marc keeps up anecdote after anecdote, with quotes and details to remind you that this is a real person he is talking about. These surreal outrages against the trust that was placed in this sick man really did happen (and are still happening).

There is a good deal of insider information about Tom Cruise, Lisa McPherson and many other people of interest to the critics of Scientology as well as the general public. I kept thinking to myself while reading this book that Marc just happened to be in the right place at the right time to tell me everything that I was curious about.

Much of what I found so interesting about the book stems from my own curiosity as an ex-Sea Org member who didn't last quite as long as he did. While I never went to the "Secret" Int Base, I experienced the veil of mystique that surrounded the Int Base and had been in awe of it. Turning the pages of this book, Marc tells me the only thing to be in awe of at the Int Base was the incompetence, abuse and lack of dignity. I saw enough outrageous stuff during my time in the Sea Org to make me sneak out of the Sea Org's LA base in the middle of the the night, but I had no idea how bad it really was at the upper echelons. In recent years I've read about Miscavige hitting people and the sleep deprivation and the rest, but when Marc's book hit me with it page after page, I got worn down - more and more outraged. The only thing that sustained me was the knowledge that it would end for Marc.

It is haunting to know that for many Sea Org members it hasn't ended and is still going on, especially when I remind myself how many of these Sea Org members joined out of a selfless desire to help others.

To say that Marc names names in this book is an under statement. There are some that he leaves out, but the important ones are in. The mood, the incompetence and internal politics of the the Sea Org are painstakingly detailed with a long string of events related by Marc, most of which he witnessed first hand. These are details that I wondered about for a long time - how did the mighty Sea Org operate at the highest levels? Marc's answer is fear, back stabbing and (for some reason I'm using his word a lot in this review) incompetence.

The plot of the book works well as a story. The good guy is Marc the author and the bad guy is, ultimately, David Miscavige. All the other bad guys are just idiots who haven't figured out that Miscavige will throw them to the wolves once he drains them dry. The only thing suspicious about the book is that Marc seems to come off as a overly reasonable person who at the same time happens to be just as brainwashed as everyone around him - never giving in to the back stabbing, in fighting and desperate, immoral measures which surrounds him more so than the razor wire and guards.

I'll say it again to anyone listening. This book begs to be made into a movie. Not only does it read like a screen play with sarcasm, but is a story that needs to be taken to the public. I wouldn't say this is the beginning of the end for Scientology. The "end" is well underway. This is the middle of the end - it's a good time for a movie.

A gripping read!

It is not often that one gets a look inside a secretive organization like the Church of Scientology. Mark Headley spent years working at Golden Era Studios, shoulder to shoulder with top management and Scientology celebrities.
This book reveals the inner workings of the Sea Organization, and the machinations of cult leader David Miscavige and his acolyte Tom Cruise. Headley writes with credibility and humor. This is a must read for any current or ex-scientologist, or anyone with an interest in this subject. The faithful should have no problem with it, as one of the early abilities they lay claim to is the ability to talk to anyone on any subject, and the focus on truth.
The book includes a forward by Marty Rathbun, a former high level church leader during the time Mark was there.

Information Technology for Managers - Reynolds 2010

This text is a good overview of business technology. I would, however, recommend more frequent revisions due to the fact that IT changes so quickly. It is somewhat verbose and duplicates to some degree the text Electronic Commerce 10th edition, 2013.

Outdated and Longwinded

I dislike this book for a few reasons. But before getting into that, I'll say what this book has going for it. Occasionally, the flowcharts do make things jive a bit more in my mind. Also, all of the information is technically valid.

Yet, there is much to dislike about this book. I suppose this is acting as a warning for students, since you don't have a choice. So here we go... All of the statistics in this book are about 3-4 years out of date. Many of the technologies mentioned in this book are outdated or obsolete, so it isn't very useful in certain areas. But my biggest complaint has nothing to do with the timeliness of the information. Everything in this book is broken down into painful detail. Lists of things 9 items long, go on for 7-8 pages. It all starts to blur together. There are literally 3 pages dedicated to telling you what plan, do, check, and act mean. The author makes no attempt to convey the information in an intuitive way. Rather, he shotguns information at you and hopes something sticks. Be prepared for hours upon hours of droopy-eyed reading friends. Best of luck.

Not as good as it was disturbing and depressing

I get that this is an accurate account of the life of a raging drug addict, but as a drug counselor I found it disturbing and depressing. One of the guys at my rehab saw me with it and asked if he could read it when I'm done. Um.......no.

new favorite book.

It's been a few weeks since I finished Wasting Talent, and Damien Cantwell feels like a bad dream I can't shake. This book was written in such an up close and personal way it is hard to break away from it without feeling as if the main character is someone you know, someone you wish you didn't have to know and watch struggle. The depiction of drug addiction was so accurate, I at times felt the need to check my hands to see if they were shaking because my own memory of withdrawal was brought with such force to the front of my mind - I couldn't stop nodding my head along with the main character, mouthing the words 'I get it, man'. Let me be clear, I absolutely loved every minute of this book and I identified with the main character so strongly it made it difficult to put down. Leone perfectly captures the inner dilemma and lack thereof when faced with an addiction that quiets all other aspects of self- there is no such thing as a moral compass anymore, yet in brief moments you see a glimmer of the person Cantwell could have been, started out to be, and it becomes even more heartbreaking than it already was. It is impossible to stop rooting for him, despite everything he does, which is what I find the most accurate of all. Cantwell is that best friend in your life you just want to get better, who you believe in and support against all odds, fighting for them because you see the immeasurable talent within them that could provide them a life of happiness and freedom if only they were willing to let it, if only they could begin to fathom a life without drugs. I love this book, and while it is a fictional novel, I have yet to come across something more honest and accurate to the drug addicted lifestyle, and how it changes people. I found it impossible to not understand Damien, his sense of humor, and his reasoning behind all actions. The urgency in which he administers drugs in situations with heightened stress and danger, as well as situations with virtually none at all- how they parallel, how he acknowledges that this is no longer a desire it is a NEED, that there is something inside him that he needs to kill and that can only be accomplished with a complicated series of drugs and alcohol that he understands the effects of too well. Damien is an excellent example of what it is to be a drug addict, to love a drug addict, and to have your heart broken by a drug addict - over and over and over again.

Even better book 2

Read the first book in the series and loved it. I was excited to read this one as well. Its a great story. We have Max who is the beta of the Raver Wolf Pack. He's dominant but not near as Xavier is. X is a lot to handle...he was in book one. He's calmed a smidge in this one but still very alpha lol. Max is sweet and romantic and a really good around guy. He finds his mate but in dire circumstances. Only reason he found her is because she was viciously attacked by wolves with a bunch of bites and that pretty much means they meant to turn her. Once she is bitten that many time her scent and dna changed so Max was able to save her and kill her attackers.

Kenly is actually a nice person considering where she came from. Her parents are wealthy and workaholics. Both doctors who have pretty much ignored her all her life and was raised by nannies which her father seemed to be dipping his stick in. Not that her mother cared. She was with her Grandmother for awhile as well. Who was great to her and way more loving than her parents. So, she had a little love growing up but not in the form of her parents. She freaks the heck out after being chased down and attacked by wolves. She thinks she is dying and wakes up in a room in the Raber territory. She's scared and thinks she is dying. Humans dont go through changes well that is why its forbidden. Most die. Max refuses to let her. As she is given all this information all at once and things are proven. She takes it pretty well and Max grounds her and keeps her calm. They are mates after all. I really liked his character. He was patient with her...so very patient. Explaining things and the process with the help of Lily...love her. Ha...when the heat came on...whew that was hot. Then once she changes wow...when they mate and seal their connection dayum! Anyways, we also learn that Kenly is part witch on her father's side. Thats what made her transition so painful and nearly unsuccessful. That biotch Marissa is still around..I swear she is up to no good. Maybe she finally learned to shut up.

David Camp is still around and causing problems. We learn some tidbits about him which leaves everyone confused. Story isn't over. Its not a cliffhanger per se but still unfinished.

I enjoyed the writing and it was a fast read. I will say that I noticed in some of the wording that she writes facial expressions into it. I dont think that is needed. If the flow is working and we're into the story which we are we dont need her to describe in detail of their expressions. Like a look on the face saying...he is showing his pissed off face...thats what I mean and she doesnt need to add that stuff. We get the picture. :) Can't wait to read the next in the series. I sorta thought it would be a bigger series with multiple characters getting a story. I was bummed to find out there are only 3 stories. Like Lily getting a story. Or some of the other ones too. I guess there is a reason for it maybe but still sucks.

Kenly's gut instinct told her to go home but she didn't. She finds herself on the receiving end of a vicious attack that changes her life in ways she never imagines. As she is rescued by unseen forces, she awakens in a strange place, alive but a long way from okay. When she discovers she is in the home of the Raber Wolf Pack, Kenly isn't sure what to think, especially when she meets the pack.....and Max. Max is the Beta to the Raber Wolf Pack and realizes Kenly is his mate. The fact Kenly is human poses some large obstacles between her and Max. As Kenly's world changes, she realizes the people closest to her are not what they appear and the Raber Wolf Pack may be the family she's always wanted.

I love this series and was excited to read book #2. The story begins with Kenly on the run from a group of wolves and running down an alley to get away. But the story isn't your typical damsel in distress, falls for hot Mr. Rescue me, and they live happily ever after. No, this is something different. Don't get me wrong, Kenly is the damsel in distress but her inner dialog is funnier than real life conversation. And when Kenly meets the pack and Max....wow. Max is the hot Beta who has found his mate in Kenly. The way he talks to her makes every girl swoon and Kenly's reaction to the information is hysterical. Don't get me wrong, the story has a serious side to it but Ryan does a great job of balancing the two emotions. The story pulls the reader in and is written in a way the reader can see what is happening through Kenly's eyes. The story does intertwine with Xavier and Zara, from book 1, but does a good job of keeping them on the periphery until they need to play a bigger role. I cannot wait for book #3.

Things move quickly in this series and you don’t get a whole lot of time to process it before oh holy crap the enemy is beating

Book Two of the Raber Wolf Pack kicks the story up a notch higher. Kenly is a human who is being viciously attacked and bitten by wolves when Max, the Raber Beta, feels her cries for help and the pull of her scent as his mate. The attack leaves her on the brink of the dangerous shift for a human to wolf and not only does it affect her state of mine, but that of her mate Max. Things move quickly in this series and you don’t get a whole lot of time to process it before oh holy crap the enemy is beating down the gates. Will Kenly survive the change or will she end up like so many humans before her?

I have to start off by saying that these books move at a very quick pace. Readers need to understand the mate for life concept pretty easily before jumping into this series because haters of instant love connections will be a hating. Personally, that one of the reasons I love this series by Ryan Michele. You don’t have to sit through chapters upon chapters of relationship angst before getting what you want. The drama in these books comes from an entirely different source, their enemies and one female wolf who you just want to reach through the pages and strangle. Seriously, chica, go find another wolf and a new hobby. The twists and turns along with the smexy parts of the story will drive you to keep turning page after page. I can’t wait for the final book in this series.

A well-documented, real-life account of a controlled mind-altering drug study that's a great read

This was Ms. Estevez's first book and she wrote it in the third person about her experiences going through a carefully controlled synthetic psilocybin drug study. I was intrigued with the details of her experiences before, during and after this study, the courage it took for her to go through with it after her initial terrifying experience with this mind-altering drug, how she overcame her fear and how she went on to finish the study and learn and benefit from it. This was a good read and kudos to the author for sharing her story.
