Far too many spelling errors; many dates not clearly written i.e. June ij, 1943, etc. thought it was written by someone who did not have knowledge of English language, grammar or spelling.
Certainly not worth $23.00-- a very poor purchase.

Required reading for a WWII historian or buff

Martin Blumenson probably doesn't enough credit for stitching together the diaries of this amazingly complex man and military mind. Then again, it seems few if any have gained the unparalleled access to GSP Jr.'s letters and diaries. Taken of course in conjunction with Volume 1 (1885-1940), one sees a vivid picture of a tremendously gifted military man, a person so deeply spiritual in one moment, yet ravenous for the destruction of his enemies the next. Three things Blumenson highlighted that I found most thoughtful and salient: (1) Patton's deep, exacting grasp of military history -- seemingly, all the way back to when the first caveman bashed the other with a club; (2) his all-encompassing mantra of a self-destiny that must be fulfilled, and (3) how completely wedded he was to the dictum that the most disciplined and principled troops will win the day. Blumenson's work takes the common, two-dimensional mainstream picture of Patton -- slash-and-dash tank commander with a penchant for being a martinet -- and produces instead a tremendously deep, textured portrait of one of the most intriguing military figures of the century. Lastly, Blumenson's exacting eye gives the reader a strong rendition of the men of "The Greatest Generation" -- before they were called that -- through Patton's eyes and the man's devotion to his troops.

A Great Insight to one of the Greatest Military Minds Ever

The Patton Papers (1940-1945) is actually part two of a two part series. While the first part covers the first 55 years of General George S. Patton's life this book details the period leading up to Americas involvement in WW II and takes the reader through all of Patton's ordeals. The Author, Martin Blumenson, has taken General Pattons own words from letters and diary entires to paint a wonderfully detailed portrait of Patton, not only as a military officer but as a human being. This book captures the true spirit of Patton. His ego-mania, his drive for success both on the battlefield and off, his sometimes paranoia about other officers, especially Montgomery. Patton was a very complex figure and no book that I have read really comes close to explaining his personality better than this one. Best of all, this book details his military genius, through all of World War II, including his end-run in France to liberate Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge. What is also interesting is how Patton was unable to adapt to peace-time, leading to his dismissal as post-war occupational governor of Bavaria.
If you're interested in WWII and Patton intriques you as he does me, I would highly recommend this book. It truly gives you a great understanding of the man instead of the myth.

Excellent! Excellent

Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! - It was straight to the point. Based on Biblical writings. I think lesson 2 was the most difficult. My husband and I read the book before introducing the lessons to familiarize our selves with the questions.
As a family we have family devotions daily, so I think that helped a lot. The children are used to open discussions with us after Bible reading. The book brought out a lot of questions. It also opened up the opportunity to speak about rape, inappropriate touch, sex under the covering of marriage and purity.
To be honest we had the delayed the talk for our 13 year old and I think now it was wrong. We should have done this, as it is recommended by the book - start age 6 and go from there. See how much your child knows already.
We monitor everything our children watch and read - and we were surprised just how much they perceive from commercials, magazines at the grocery store stands, friends and cousins.
We did the Talk with our 6,8,11 and 13 year old children. The 6 year old had no difficulty understanding that this is part of God's plan for us.
I think it was more difficult for our 8 year old, she was very upset and said "there is no way you should expect any grandchildren from me! no way!" - we allowed each of our children expressed their opinions, emotions and ask as many questions as they wanted. We took our time with each lesson and even divided them in to two sections.
( By the end of the third lesson, where we explained the beauty, love, joy and God's blessing with scripture our 8 year old had changed her mind about not getting married and having children - she said maybe she would get married after all.)
Our 11 year old and 13 year old just kept saying that it was disgusting and such, but as the lessons progress and they see the beauty of God's plan and creation they were thankful to God for his plan.

We had searched and researched the topic, and how to approach it - read books and articles - but not other book compares to this one. This is the one we chose to introduce our children to the 'Talk' and could not be more content with the results.

Great tool for parents!

I found that having The Talk as a tool was very helpful to me in talking with our daughters about sex and God’s plan for it. The lessons took only about 20 minutes each, depending on the discussion time and I love how Luke uses so much Scripture to back up the points of each lesson. It was comforting to my awkwardness to have a script to guide us through the main points, and I also appreciated that the illustrations and explanations were as discreet as possible while staying true to the clinical definitions. Highly recommend this parent resource.

Must-have for any parent

The Talk is exactly what I needed to help me guide my children through a biblical discussion of sexuality. It's clearly written with enough detail, yet beautiful in it's simplicity. The Talk clearly defines sex through God's lens using excellent scripture references and discussion questions. It's a must have for any parent.

The authors have taught at the University of Greenwich and other universities in Europe currently Holden is teaching at Istanbul Technical University) and it is illustrated with examples of both education there and elsewhere in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. The book aims to offer an insight into what landscape architecture is as currently practised and also looks forward to developments in the future and what landscape architecture could be. It gives an overview and is complemented by Construction for Landscape Architecture (2011) which offers an introduction to one aspect of landscape design. So a British based view which takes a global perspective. Of interest to anyone considering undertaking landscape architecture education, to students of landscape architecture, to careers advisors, and to fellow professionals wanting to understand something of the scope of landscape architecture.

Robert Holden and Jamie Liversedge are both landscape architects and have lectured at and taught landscape architecture and garden design at the University of Greenwich, London and other European universities. They are co-authors of Construction for Landscape Architecture (2011).

A much appreciated global perspective

We use this book for our introduction course at my university. It follows the style we have been employing for the course for the last 20 years, discussing precedent, process, and projects (and we have been looking for a new book, since other efforts are out of print). It is not a highly dense book and a bit simplistic (not overwhelming-- which is good), as it could be a bit more academic (thus the 4 stars); however, it is well illustrated which is important to a visual profession. By reading this book, one will get a good overview of the profession. The book has numerous international examples from sites that our students visit during their study abroad experiences, so it fits well with our intentions. We supplement our course with readings from other authors, but the foundation is this book. Robert Holden is one of Europe's outstanding landscape architects and landscape architectural critics/academics. His expertise is evident throughout the book. Mr. Liversedge is also an experienced landscape architect and academic at the University of Greenwich, one of England's top landscape architecture programs. Robert and Jamie make an excellent co-authoring team. They cite Calvert Vaux, one of the designers of Central Park as an American; however he was born and trained in London, so at our school we call him a British-American. While not mentioned in the book, there is a fair amount of information about the origin of the term landscape architecture first used by a Scot, Gilbert Laing Meason, writing about painters positioning structures within landscapes in Italy, and then redefined and promoted by John Claudius Loudon (another Scot working in London) who probably communicated his ideas to Andrew Jackson Downing, eventually filtering to Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux who fully embellished the notion of the practicing landscape architect. One will not get such detail in this book. Considering the origins of the term with noted UK authorities, it is surprising such history is not mentioned. Still the book is highly valuable for those interested in understanding the foundations and activities of the profession. I have a landscape history book coming out soon, so eventually I will become fair game for critics too. I admire Robert's and Jamie's contribution, especially its breadth. I hope more schools around the world adopt this book. I suspect the authors may be considering a second edition as there are so many other examples that one could include. But it all takes time and this is an excellent first edition.

About the Author
Melody Beattie is the author of numerous best-selling books, including Codependent No More, Beyond Codependency, The Language of Letting Go, More Langauge of Letting Go, and 52 Weeks of Conscious Contact. Her first book, Codependent No More, was published by Hazelden in 1986. Lots of info to digest and think through

I chose this book to review because this subject is very personal to me. Without going into too much detail, I have a family member that has an addiction. It has been a very trying time for me over the past year. I actually own the original book CODEPENDENT NO MORE but I haven't opened it yet. However, when this book was offered to me I realized that some good would come out of me reading it.

Going to a 12 step program such as Al-Anon, Nar-Anon or Codependents Anonymous is something the book highly recommends. The format of the book is shaped around the 12 steps of Codependents Anonymous with each chapter going into detail about a step or two. The steps are similar to those in other 12 step programs with slight adaptations to fit Codependents. Each chapter has exercises and activities to make sure the reader understands the steps discussed. Since it can take months or even years to move past certain steps, it can be a while before the book is finished. However taking as much time as it needs to come to this understanding is beneficial to find healing.

There are some places where I am in disagreement with the author. I'm not sure if this is because of my faith vs. the theory but several times I felt that I could not agree with Beattie. I completely understand the need that I need to focus on myself and reevaluate how I am acting and thinking. Maybe I just read it wrong or I'm not completely understanding but there were times when I felt that it seemed that the addict or whoever is causing you to be codependent was not at fault and you were. To worry or even think about them at all seemed to be wrong. It's said that you might even need to completely cut them out of your life in order to make yourself better. The thing with that is that even if you DO cut them out completely and never see or talk to them again, you'll still think about them. To completely have absolutely no feeling for them is impossible or at least it is for me. Still it's a good thing because it makes you think a lot and helps you to reevaluate how you have been living your life.

While I feel that the info in this book is very valuable and highly informative, as a workbook it fell flat for me. When I think of a workbook, I expect to be able to write IN the actual book. If an exercise called for jotting down thoughts or creating a list, I would expect to see actual space and lines in the book to write in. I also would have like a questionnaire or a survey to take to evaluate how you were before starting to read the book. Unfortunately this workbook contains none of that. Anytime there is an activity that calls for writing, the reader is expected to write in an external journal. I don't like that because that seems to defeat the entire purpose of a workbook. It means having to keep up with an extra item and seems pointless. I would want to keep everything together and in the future having to keep referring back and forth between two books would be confusing especially if you lose one. Therefore while the information is greatly useful, the actual setup of the workbook failed.

This is a book not to be rushed through. I read it pretty quickly to finish it in time for the tour but it's a book that I will be going back through again more slowly to make sure that everything sinks in. I found that I have been doing a lot of stuff already that the book mentioned prior to reading the book but there is still more that I need to learn and practice. Regardless of any criticism I've had in this review, please note that I'm not in denial about any codependency issues that I have. It is something that I have to work on in my life and pray that healing and hope will come my way.

Excellent BOOK!!! Extremely helpful to those who need it.

I purchased this as a companion to her book, "Codependent No More." It was definitely a book from GOD! It is helping me so much and I've had it less than a week.
Anyone with addicts in their family or close circle of friends owes it to themselves to read this and her other book as well.
It will answer questions you didn't realize you had.
VERY HELPFUL AND HEALING!!
I thank God for leading me to purchase it.

Great Workbook for Codependency

After I fell apart after a relationship, I found out i was codependent. This book really helps to explain the whys of the illness. There was a lot there that really sounded like they were talking about me in my situation. Great stuff.
