It was an OK series, I kind of expected more but the plot line was pretty decent. I just found Lacey to be so naive about everything and that's frustrating. "Like ma'am, you are a grown woman...buck up!" However, still a decent read

Beautiful. Beautifully written. Loved the series from the first one to the finale. The characters were alive and had an abundance of life and personality. The first time that I can remember preordering a book. Knowing that it was coming today; I started checking my Kindle at midnight. When I saw it at 12:05 a.m., I started to read. Couldn't put it down until the last word was read. Yet, I still re-read portions. Thank you. Job well done.

Though at times too densely packed with information to be easily digestible (at least by me), this is a good reference work on the Mongols. Or, more specifically, on their invasion of Europe and the events surrounding that. I found myself highlighting detail after detail, including such tidbits as "Inalchuk was sent to Chingis Khan's headquarters, where molten silver was poured into his eyes and ears until he died" and "there was a whole period in Chinese art when all the statues and paintings were of horses, since the Mongol patrons desired nothing else" and "After the battle the Mongols recorded the number of enemy dead by cutting an ear from every body and collecting them into nine large sacks which they sent to Batu."

Not worth the time or money!

Mostly it's just a list of battles lost to the Mongols. While there is a short section of why Mongol tactics won, there is no serious discussion of the characteristics of individual battles. Very little information would have been lost if the book just contained a list of the battles with the dates of each. Perhaps the lack of more detail is due to the lack of original sources. If so then one wonders if writing the book was really justified.

While the book does include a few maps, they are just low detail line drawings with a few place names. It would be much better served by high detail maps with arrows showing the direction of campaigns.

About the Author
Rabinder Singh Bhamra was born in 1940 and raised in the city of Amritsar in Punjab, India into an industrial family. He grew up with an interest in the fine arts and finished his college education at Khalsa College, Amritsar with a Bachelor of the Arts. Later, the author did his Honors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT in Bombay, where he worked for six years as a Production and Quality Manager before migrating to Long Island, New York. The author has been living in New York since 1972 with his wife, Balwinder Kaur of Chandigarh. He worked as a Principal Engineer and Quality Manager in microelectronics and electronic components manufacturing with General Instruments Corp. Presently, he is working with County of Nassau as a Project Manager. The author has been involved as a volunteer in the management of the Gurdwara Sikh Cultural Society since 1972 for 19 years until 1991, where he served as a General Secretary, Vice President and Trustee. He was one of the founding members of the Sikh Council of North America in 1978 and helped start the Sikh Day Parade on Baisakhi Day since 1988. He has also helped run the Sikh Studies Program at Columbia University for 10 years. As a community spokesperson, he presented the Sikh religion in interfaith meetings and conferences. He was working with JUS Punjabi T.V. till 2011, the first National Punjabi T.V. Channel in the USA, as a Talk Show Host and Senior Correspondent. He is deeply involved in the spread of Gurmat through writing, lectures, katha, kirtan and TV presentations. The author is also an Honorary Chaplain with the Department of Police, County of Nassau, New York.

OMG... One of the best book I have read so far. It explains in simple terms about the Sikh Religion. A religion of humanity. How to understand God, Live your simple life. How to love humanity. How to respect all the different faiths, I would highly recommend everyone to read this book if you want to understand what is spirituality is. God Bless Rabinder Singh Bhamra.

About the Author

John Tobey received his BA in mathematics from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois in 1965, his MA in mathematics education from Harvard University in 1966, and his PhD in mathematics education from Boston University in 1980. He has taught in the mathematics department at the United States Military Academy at West Point and served as the Mathematics Department Chairman at North Shore Community College in Danvers, Massachusetts for five years. John has served as the president of the New England Mathematics Association of Two Year Colleges. He has received the NISOD award for outstanding teaching from the University of Texas at Austin. John is the author of seven mathematics books published by Pearson Education. John has spoken to many mathematics departments and at many professional meetings throughout the country on the topic of developmental mathematics education and distance learning in mathematics. He lives in Massachusetts.

Jeffrey Slater has been a professor at North Shore Community College for thirty-eight years and received the Teacher of the Year award in 2002. Jeff travels around the country speaking on student retention and is also a consultant to the Federal Government. He lives in Marblehead, Massachusetts with his wife Shelley and his yellow lab Gracie.

Jamie Blair has directed the Mathematics Learning Center at Orange Coast College for the past seventeen years. She designed, developed, and implemented the Center, and as a result of this effort has provided technical expertise related to the particulars of the Math Center to numerous other two-year colleges and at many conferences. In 2007 Jamie was appointed to the Team of Basic Skills Specialist by the California State Academic Senate. She is also currently participating on Title 3 committees on her campus. She specializes in teaching students who have never been successful in mathematics. She is an expert in the area of basic skills in relation to the learning needs of students. She lives in California.

Jennifer Crawford received her BS in mathematics from the University of Minnesota – Duluth in 1995 and her MS in mathematics from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities in 1998. She taught a wide range of courses at North Shore Community College in Danvers, Massachusetts for five years. She currently teaches at Normandale Community College in Bloomington, Minnesota where her focus is working with developmental math students. She lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota with her husband, two young children, and black lab.

Very good book, very detailed.

I would recommend it, it really help me with my pre algebra class. I didn't need to use the access card package, so unless you really need the access code, you can always buy it without it and pay less.

The access card does not work with used books. I wish the description would have said this. I ended up having to buy mymathlab package online and didn't use this book AT ALL. Total waste

An excellent textbook

This was the book chosen by my professor for an undergraduate music history course, and I can safely say that it is an excellent textbook. Plantinga's writing style is wonderfully clear and to the point, and well... respected musicologists become respected for a reason. Plantinga is one of the foremost authorities on 19th century music, and his knowledge and scholarship are extremely evident throughout the book. I would advise all music professors teaching 19th century music history courses to consider this textbook before all others.

The book is a beautiful glance at the Romantic period in music, and it reveals resources that would be great reading in the future. It got here quickly enough for me to benefit from it, and I would recommend it for professors, teachers, or music history buffs.
